Introducing IFS’s New Host Office Team in Australia
Meet the New Host Office Team of the International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers (IFS)
With our movement’s 100th anniversary on the horizon, we are thrilled to introduce the incoming host office team of the International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers Inc. (henceforth IFS), proudly joining from the Local Community Services Association (LCSA) in New South Wales, Australia. This enthusiastic and dedicated team is succeeding the Finnish Federation of Settlements in carrying forward the IFS’s mission of fostering global collaboration and driving impactful initiatives among member organisations.
The new host office, working closely with IFS members across the globe, will be led by LCSA CEO Can Yaşmut as IFS Executive Director, and supported by Michael Shreenan, IFS Operations Manager (LCSA). Joining them are Paul Sekfy, IFS Board Member representing LCSA and current Vice President of IFS, and Lyn Lormer, also a Board Member of IFS, representing Counterpoint Community Services. Meet our team and learn more about their commitment to the IFS vision by exploring their individual bios and the organisations they represent.
LCSA, a longstanding and respected member of the IFS, has played a pivotal role in being the peak agency of neighbourhood and community centres in NSW, supporting their members in fostering community-focused initiatives and collaborations. With a decade of involvement, LCSA has been instrumental in promoting social innovation and empowerment within IFS’s global framework.
The IFS Asia-Pacific Network convened by LCSA, serves as a vital bridge, connecting diverse communities across the region with shared goals of inclusion, sustainability, and grassroots development. Through this network, LCSA has facilitated the exchange of ideas, resources, and best practices, significantly strengthened the IFS community while supporting others in addressing regional challenges with a unified approach.
Strengthening Our Impact Through Strategic Focus
Guided by the new IFS Strategic Plan, the host office is committed to aligning initiatives with shared goals and values, paving the way for a stronger and more connected global network. Our strategic approach focuses on four key pillars:
1. Relationship Building
We are dedicated to fostering collaboration and solidarity among IFS member organisations. Our aim is to strengthen relationships within the global community, building a foundation of trust, mutual support, and shared understanding as we work towards shared objectives.
2. Knowledge and Capacity Building
The new host office will prioritise creating opportunities for member organisations to learn from one another. By sharing knowledge, best practices, and resources, we seek to empower members to enhance their local and global impact. Tailored training and capacity-building programs will form the backbone of this approach.
3. Advocacy
Advocacy remains at the heart of the IFS mission. We will continue to champion social justice, human rights, and inclusivity on a global scale, amplifying the voices of our members and the communities they serve. Additionally, we aim to provide members with tools and support to advocate effectively at both local and national levels, driving sustainable change.
4. Organisational Development
To sustain and grow the impact of IFS, we recognise the importance of building robust organisational foundations. This includes diversifying income streams, developing innovative funding opportunities, and reinforcing institutional stability to achieve long-term success.
Exciting Times Ahead
We firmly believe that this transition marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the IFS. With the new host office team’s expertise and shared commitment to the IFS vision, we are confident in the opportunities to build on the incredible legacy of the Finnish Federation of Settlements while working towards a future filled with meaningful collaborations and impactful initiatives.
The team is eager to connect with members to exchange ideas, share insights, and strengthen relationships to further our common goals. Together, we will advance the IFS mission and ensure the continued success and growth of our global community.
