IFS at the United Nations and What’s Ahead
IFS continues to engage actively at the United Nations, bringing local community realities into global conversations on human rights, social justice, and inclusion.
During the most recent IFS UN Committee meeting, members reflected on the growing importance of strong advocacy networks amid significant challenges facing the UN system, including budget reductions and institutional transitions. In this context, IFS’s role as a connector between neighbourhood work and global policy remains vital.
Looking ahead, there are several key moments where members can engage:
- Commission for Social Development (February 2–11, New York), focusing on social resilience and coordinated policy responses.
- Commission on the Status of Women (March 9–20, New York), with a strong focus on access to justice for women and girls.
- Virtual participation opportunities, allowing members to join UN-related meetings and committees from anywhere in the world.
The committee also highlighted growing momentum among African members and ongoing efforts to make UN engagement more accessible. No special expertise is required. Members are already doing the work on the ground, and UN engagement offers a way to amplify those experiences and voices.
