Neighbourhood Centres: Community Living Room Conversations

A new cross-border initiative is unfolding across North America. Through collaboration between Neighbourhood Houses in Canada and the United States, IFS members have launched a Peer Learning Series rooted in values of care, equity, and belonging.

This space, lovingly called Community Living Room Conversations, brings together staff, practitioners, and community leaders for honest dialogue on what it means to care, lead, and build together in uncertain times. It’s more than a meeting — it’s a place for reflection, courage, and shared learning.

“We offer this as one antidote to these turbulent times,” say the organisers, “a space where peer learning and mutual support work to advance our collective efforts to secure neighbourhood wellbeing and resilience.”

Past Session

April 3, 2025Future of Democracy: Building a Beloved Community
One highlight from this session was a collective poem written with poet and panellist Ziysah, capturing the emotions and intentions of participants. It served as a powerful and creative “meeting note” for the gathering.

Upcoming Session

July 24, 2025Future of Democracy: Places of Courage in Movement Building
Join us as we continue the conversation, exploring where courage lives in our work and how we can strengthen each other through it.

The series is open to neighbourhood-based practitioners across the Americas who are looking to exchange, reflect, and grow within a larger global movement.
