It is with heavy hearts that the IFS family and United Neighborhood Houses (UNH) mourn the loss of former Executive Director, Emily Menlo Marks. Emily’s dedicated leadership at UNH from 1998 to 2002 profoundly influenced New York’s settlement houses, shaping policies for good governance, and fostering programs to benefit the UNH settlement house network.
Emily’s enduring legacy includes the creation of the Emily Menlo Marks Scholarship Fund, which has provided essential support to settlement house staff seeking further education. Over two decades, UNH has raised and awarded more than $700,000 to empower the educational aspirations of settlement house staff.
Emily’s remarkable life was a gift to UNH and countless others, especially her loving family. The board and staff of United Neighborhood Houses extend their heartfelt condolences to Emily’s children, grandchildren, and the entire Marks family during this difficult time.
