MEMBERSHIP Structure

IFS Membership Structure: Overview

At IFS, we embrace a diverse community of members, and our membership structure reflects this inclusivity. While we honour our traditional categories—Affiliated Organisations, Federations, and Associates—we’ve streamlined the explanation to make it easier to understand how each fits into the IFS network.

 Affiliated Organisations (Individual Members)

Independent settlement houses, neighbourhood centres, and community centres that join IFS directly.

Full voting members with an active role in shaping IFS’s direction.
These organizations are the heart of the IFS community, driving local impact and global collaboration.

Federations

Umbrella organisations representing three or more member organisations.
Operate at local, regional, national, or international levels.

Federations are full voting members of IFS, while: Member organizations within a Federation are considered non-voting members unless they join IFS directly as Affiliated Organizations
.
This structure ensures Federations can represent their networks while maintaining clarity around voting rights.

Associate Members

Open to a wide range of entities and individuals, including: Individuals and friends of IFS
For-profit corporations
Governmental units
Other non-profit organisations
Local or Regional organisations connected via a Federation

Associates are non-voting members, but they are valued contributors to the IFS community.

They are encouraged to participate in events, discussions, and collaborative initiatives.

Member organizations of Federation

Associate membership
Member organisations within an IFS Federation are considered non-voting members, given free Associate membership status, unless they join IFS directly as Affiliated Organisations

Tiered Organisational Membership for Greater Inclusivity

Our organisational membership structure is designed to be inclusive and equitable, with tiered fees based on annual operating budgets. This ensures that organisations of all sizes can participate and benefit from membership. Membership fees were initially set in Euros and have been converted to Australian Dollars (AUD) at an exchange rate of 1.9, following the transition to our new host office.

Please note that this rate is provided for reference purposes only and may vary at the time of payment.

We understand that circumstances can change. If your organisation is experiencing financial difficulties or if you have any questions about renewing your membership, we encourage you to contact us at info@ifsnetwork.org. Our team is here to help.
