IFS Africa Regional Group
The IFS Africa Regional Group is the regional engagement platform of the International Federation for Settlements (IFS) for the African continent. It brings together civil society organisations, practitioners, researchers, and community leaders committed to advancing inclusive, equitable, and sustainable cities and communities grounded in human rights and social justice.
IFS Africa promotes collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective advocacy on issues affecting informal settlements, neighbourhood development, human rights, social justice, and community resilience. The platform strengthens partnerships among grassroots organisations, networks, and institutions working to improve the well-being of communities living in vulnerable urban and peri‑urban environments. It also amplifies African voices in global discussions on settlement development, climate resilience, social inclusion, human rights, and participatory urban governance.
As part of the global International Federation for Settlement Houses (IFS) network, IFS Africa contributes to the broader mission of promoting sustainable human settlements, human rights, social justice, and inclusive development worldwide. The regional platform connects African civil society actors, practitioners, researchers, and community leaders with the global IFS community, enabling shared learning, coordinated advocacy, and cross‑regional collaboration.
Through regular dialogues, regional convenings, and collaborative initiatives, IFS Africa aims to connect organisations, share best practices, and support community‑led solutions that promote dignified living conditions, human rights, and sustainable development across African cities and settlements.
